Before & After: Laser Hair Removal
Laser
Before your appointment
- Shave the area the day before you come in — the night before for a morning appointment, or that morning for an afternoon appointment.
- Shave as closely as possible. Shorter hair means less pain and a lower risk of burns.
- If you have dermatitis or another skin condition in the area, we recommend treating it first.
- No waxing for one month before treatment.
- No tanning for two weeks before treatment. If you've had a lot of sun exposure, tell the doctor before we start.
- To prevent pigmentation, don't use deodorant or body lotion on the area on the day of treatment.
After treatment
- The skin around the hair follicles may look bumpy or red. This is normal and settles within two weeks.
- Drier areas, especially on the body, may become itchy, dry, or break out. Moisturize generously. This gradually improves over 2–3 weeks; if it persists, come in and we'll treat it.
- You can shower from the next day. Don't scrub the treated area.
- For one week, avoid saunas, jjimjilbang, sweaty exercise, hot showers, and outdoor swimming. If a large area was treated, allow two weeks.
- Keep out of the sun and apply sunscreen carefully. Sun-exposed areas can occasionally darken (post-treatment pigmentation); this fades gradually, so don't worry.
- You can shave from the next day. Shaving may feel less smooth after laser — go as gently as possible.
- If hair grows back, shave it — don't pluck. Plucking can cause folliculitis. Remaining hairs shed naturally over 1–2 weeks, so don't pull them out.
- Results aren't immediate; hair removal takes multiple sessions. The number depends on the area and on you.

a blister forms. Apply an ice pack immediately, take care not to break the blister, then call or come in. We'll show you how to care for it and prescribe an ointment.
